Representatives of businesses, charities and public sector bodies are increasingly expected to engage with broadcast media to talk about their organisations. Such situations can involve straightforward questioning to discuss – for example - the announcement of a new product offering, the opening of refurbished headquarters or the celebration of an industry award.

At the other end of the scale, spokespeople can find themselves facing hostile cross-examination from journalists in crisis management or reputational damage-limitation scenarios.

However good they may be at their day jobs, some leaders and managers may be less confident when it comes to facing a microphone or camera. Unfortunately, there is only one opportunity to get your point across convincingly in a media interview, with plenty of scope for getting it wrong.

Birmingham City University now offers a one-day Short Course, “Media Training for Businesses and Organisations” which will help you to maximise your effectiveness as an interviewee.

During a packed, activity-filled day on 12th July 2024, you will learn the principles of media interview best practice, and undertake live role-plays with both friendly and hostile journalists in BCU’s state-of-the-art radio and television studios.

By the end of this course, you will be substantially more confident and much better prepared for dealing with journalists.
