Literacy, numeracy, digital and related competencies shape how well people learn, adapt and work with new technology including AI.

A new research study from Birmingham City University (BCU) alongside a number of European partners aims to assess how these skills contribute to employee effectiveness, and actively tests which workplace-based learning formats can improve them.

BCU is inviting organisations to take part in the research programme at no capital cost to address how workplace learning and consequent AI skills development can improve employee capability, confidence and productivity.

What will your company gain?

  • An anonymised skills profile and benchmark for your site, with bespoke feedback from the research team
  • A tailored, science-based workplace learning programme at no cost
  • Early access to the project’s best-practice guide, toolkits and the comparative data dashboard
  • Visibility (if desired) as a partner company of a pan-European workplace research project

What does taking part involve?

  • Selection of employee volunteers
  • Permission to participate for employee subjects during working hours
  • A 45-minute skills survey for each volunteer
  • A few hours of activities for nominated individuals during the overall 8-10 week project duration
  • A senior company sponsor and admin contact to support co-ordination

There is no direct financial cost to participating organisations.

BCU and the wider project team will supply licences, research materials, participant incentives, workshop materials and reasonable on-site hospitality/catering. Your organisation's sole investment is employee time and some internal coordination (classroom provision etc.)
